Some things haven’t changed

Listening to public radio the other day and the argument that was being pushed forward is that while Al Sharpton is going after hip-hop artists he might as well make a play for the African-American women on the reality shows that are portrayed as b*, which is a rather serious disservice to the way in which the African-American women are portrayed in the media in general, and the way that sisters are viewed in Americas eyes. There was a time in which we complained that there wasn’t a serious minority presence on the reality screen, but that is no longer the case, as black women have their own shows, and minorities are consistent winners on such shows as Top Model. But is the way that African-American women portrayed on reality television shows intentional, or consequential?

Rap artists may be an easier target than television networks; are shows like “Charm School”, and “Flava of Love” more denigrating, or just pure good entertainment?
